flower power

so this is me wearing a very bold hawaiian dress from the late 60's early 70's. when this picture was taken the sun was high in the sky so you can't see how truly bright and saturated the colors of the garment are. i bought this dress at a vintage clothing store in east nashville, tn. i also got a really cute 50's bathing suit that has a zipper in it there. maybe i'll post some pictures of me wearing it if i'm feeling brave sometime lol. i love vintage clothing and i don't think birmingham, al has any clothing stores like that around here which makes me sad. there are some antique stores, but i've only been to a few and they didn't have clothing really. looks like i need to take a road trip back to nashville.

eastern european chic

i love anything that has a bohemian gypsy feel to it. prints and patterns like these are very in style right now. the 1st and 3rd dresses are my favorite. i like the black panty hose and the gold belts and jewelry really complete the look and make it more high fashion. i have this amazing book on gypsies that was published sometime in the 60's i think. i used a lot of the images for inspiration for my own senior collection. i'll have to post pictures of my garments and the ones from my mood board.

vintage erotica

whenever i see pictures like these i just sigh and feel all warm and fuzzy inside. clothing and fashion  from this time period just looks so glamorous and romantic. like i've said before i wish people still wore head pieces like they used to. i'm sick of practical clothing. i want to dress like one of these ladies and lounge around with a sexy man feeding me grapes or something. sometimes when i'm feeling down i pretend like the world looks like the "tonight, tonight" music video by the smashing pumpkins.

chinese fashion in time for the olympics

i have had these pics for a while and since the olympics are going on it is the perfect time to talk about chinese fashion.. well vintage chinese opera fashion. i'm not sure if these were everyday clothing from this era. looking at these pictures you realize how much history and detail must have gone into these outfits. being american it makes me feel like my culture is so plain when it comes to fashion. when i go shopping my boyfriend always rags on me for saying "this is plain" to almost everything i look at. the u.s. was founded by puritans with the "less is more" mentality and you can see that reflected in our fashion up till now. it sort of makes me sad that a lot of countries have adopted america's clothing style because they lose so much of their history and culture. i don't want to put down american fashion but i just get frustrated when i go to the mall and i can't find anything i like! i hate clothing with a lack of details! i guess i just have more expensive tastes and need to go on a shopping trip to nyc! you know, its really hard to live here and have the fashion taste i do :(

back to chinese fashion. i would totally wear the 1st outfit minus the headdress (it looks heavy) in public. the headdress is pretty awesome though. i'm going to make another blog soon about how i wish more people wore hats and other head ornaments. i want a hat with a peacock feather myself!

whiteout

lately i've been really into wearing white clothing. i just bleached my hair about a month ago and i like the way white looks on blondes. i've also been watching a lot anime with cutesy school girls so that is kind of the feel i'm going for. i actually have a laura ashley sailor inspired dress that i shortened and it really looks like it could be a japanese school uniform. i'm totally going to post a picture of me wearing it now lol. if you can't tell i've always wished i went to a catholic school or somewhere that had a cute uniform :p. so right now i'm really into the sweet and innocent look.

the blouse i'm wearing is from american eagle and the bow reminds me of the ones on japanese school girls uniforms.
the skirt is more bohemian looking and i like the lace and buttons on it.
style tip: i think its important whenever you wear a solid color for it to have a texture or interesting details so it doesn't look plain.

intro blog

so this is my first entry. i have blogged for years on livejournal about my daily life and whatnot and i have always wanted to make a fashion blog so i finally made it today.

some info about myself:
i have always loved clothing and feel that what a person wears should be an artistic reflection of yourself. i have a bachelor's degree in fashion design and merchandising from o'more college of design in nashville, tn usa. i just graduated in may and i don't really want to move to new york or anywhere just yet. right now i'm working for my dad's pharmaceutical company aligon pharmaceuticals and selling drugz. lol. i might go to law school if i get accepted but besides that i plan on teaching english in japan for a year or more in '09 -unfortunately i didn't apply in time for this year. i was born and am currently living in birmingham, al.

i plan on updating this with pictures of outfits i'm wearing and other designers and fashion trends i'm digging at the moment.

well this has been fun, but i'm ready to wrap it up so thanks to whoever reads this :)
